Each year on Armed Forces Day (the third Saturday in May), VSN honors our hometown heroes and pays tribute to the service and sacrifices of our military community by hosting “Heroes @ Home.” This annual event features free food, live music, a resource fair, and a silent auction, held in partnership with the Veteran Suicide Awareness & Prevention (VSAP) run, walk, and ruck.

Veterans who are struggling with the invisible wounds of war are invited to a free, three-day retreat at Grouse Mountain Lodge in Whitefish, focused on healing from moral injury — an emotional and spiritual trauma that can result from experiences during service that conflict with deeply held values. Hosted by VOA Northern Rockies, the Moral Injury: Healing Wounded Souls Retreat offers a safe, supportive environment for veterans to explore and begin healing from feelings of shame, guilt, depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, substance use, and even thoughts of suicide.

2025 Montana Boys State & Girls State: A Leadership and Civics Experience

The American Legion of Montana Boys State and the American Legion of Montana Auxiliary Girls State are immersive, weeklong programs designed for high school juniors to learn about government, leadership, and citizenship. Held annually at Carroll College in Helena, the 2025 sessions will take place from June 8–14. Participants will gain hands-on experience by forming mock governments, running for office, and passing legislation.
